Description: Album (1), 1916-1921. Tararuas and Mangahao Hydroelectric power construction (images 1-58). See also Album (2), 1921-1922, Mangahao Hydroelectric Power Scheme (images 59-122), at PA1-q-001. Black and white photographs of various areas in the Tararua Range, including views of the high peaks, the Mangaore Stream, the Horowhenua lowland area from the ridge leading up to Te Paki trig station, the Arapeti Valley from the site of the future Tokomaru Dam (part of the Mangahao Hydroelectric scheme), and the remnants of the Shannon Land & Sawmilling Company sawmill in the Arapeti Valley. Views of a waterfall on the Tokomaru River which was submerged when the dam was completed; views of the jig tramway which connected the terminus of the service road with the bottom of the Mangahao Valley (450 ft descent, approximately 1 in 2 grade); sinking a shaft to test rock formation preparatory to construction of the power scheme.

Description: Album related to farming operations, stock and general development at Sonoma (North Block), sections 3E No. 4 & No 2, Blocks VI & VII, Waiopehu S.D., Horowhenua; and Woodside, section 42, Block 11, Waiopehu S.D., Queen Street East, Levin. Photographs dated between 1906 and 1936. Both sections owned by members ot the Adkin family. Scenes in 1914 showing the site of a sawmill owned by P Bartholomew, which was removed when the timber had been cleared. Shows the land from first bush clearance, felling of bush and burn-off, to arable fields and crops, including growing of swedes and potatoes. Also shows construction of a traffic bridge over the Makahika River.

Description: Album of black & white photographs, chiefly of geological formations, with some group photographs of members attending the 7th Pacific Science Congress in 1949. Several images by R L Oliver show an eruption on Mount Ruapehu, probably in 1945, with views of the tholoid in the crater, later views showing vents appearing, and finally the engulfment of the larger part of the tholoid by enlargement of the major vent. Other images include one of Tuna Bay delta in the Marlborough Sounds, shell-beds, group photographs of members of the geological section attending the Pacific Science Congress in 1949, and photographs of White island, including one aerial photograph.
