As the country seeks improved work conditions, leave provisions and longer holidays, the Sri Lankan boat people show a keeness to come to New Zealand to work. Australian Prime Minister, John Howard, seeks to differentiate between asylum seekers and people and abos (aborigines) and people. Australian rugby players beat up the referee thinking someone called him a refugee. Helen Clarke (Eve) trys to tempt Peter Dunne (Adam) into eating an apple. Description: Includes 6 smaller postcards published in 2013, and 10 larger postcards published in 2014. Each card shows a landscape of a central scene, serenely painted but depicting a scene of repair, or the devastation caused by the 2011 earthquakes. There are no people in the scenes. Includes pictures of Christchurch Cathedral, the Catholic Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, C F Cotter's shop, boarded-up houses, Neil Dawson's chalice sculpture, empty shops, stacked shipping containers acting as safety shields, one (shown on two different cards) with a reproduction of a Tony Fomison painting of a man with a raised hand. The "wish you were here" message is a common one on tourism postcards, but in this case it is related to the idea that the rest of New Zealand would need to visit Christchurch to appreciate fully the damage to the city and its inhabitants' psychological state. Description: Photographs of the North Island of New Zealand taken by Les Cleveland, 1957 to 2006. Information relating to the content as well as the date taken and the date printed, is on the rear of most prints. Includes photographs of buildings, mainly commercial premises, in Wellington and Wanganui, 1957-1959. Also contains images of two old farm cottages in the Wairarapa, a tree house in Paihiatua, a car yard in Petone, and a shop reusing ammunition boxes from World War II as a flowerbed in Palmerston North. A number of photographs from 2002 document the protest around the building of the inner city bypass in Wellington. These images feature Tonks Avenue, protestors, affected buildings, an individual who was to be being evicted, and protest art. Two 2006 mages show demolition on Kensington Lane. Images of people include two women drinking beer in Ohingaiti, a motorcycle family in Turangi, and young children climing on a wooden sculpture in Porirua. A series of Maori carvings in public spaces includes sculptures on the Petone Foreshore, in Te Rauparaha Park, Porirua, and Tokaanu. Description: Photographs relating to the life of Bryan Scoullar, taken ca 1917-2010, particularly his service in the army during World War II. Bryan Scoullar collected all the images and took some of them. Images are arranged in a loose chronological order, and contain: Family photographs, circa 1917-1941, showing his mother Genevieve (nee Pope), his father Arthur, and his brother Patrick. Snapshots of the family are taken at the family residence in Wellington and during outings and holidays in New Zealand. Includes images of Patrick during the war, at home on leave, and overseas. Two school photographs taken at Marist Brothers' School, Wellington, probably of Patrick or Bryan. Photographs related to Bryan Scoullar's military service in North Africa during World War II. These are taken and collected in Egypt, Syria, and the Western Desert, ca 1941-1942. There are also some images taken during his training at Trentham army camp ca 1940, and documenting journey on board ship 'Nieue Amsterdam'.
