Description: A range of photographs, mostly related to manuscript material created by Ian Wedde. Taken by unidentified photographer(s) circa 1970 to circa 2005. Images include: -a view of Ian Wedde and another man reading sheets in a garden setting [probably taken circa 1970]. -a snapshot taken from behind a man with long hair and glasses in an armchair cradling a baby -three colour photographs of artworks by Christine Hellyar. Inscribed by Hellyar on the reverse with titles of the works and the exhibition venue and date. Relates to the exhibition 'Cook's Garden' by Hellyar at Sarjeant Gallery 2005-2006, and the exhibition 'Hodges Waterfalls' and 'Banks' Handkerchiefs' held at Hocken Art Gallery and Campbell Grant Galleries in 2005. Accompanied by annotated envelope and photocopies of sketches of the exhibition layout. -three black and white photographs of unidentified stage performances, probably taken circa 1970-1979 for publicity purposes. One image shows Paul Holmes with two women. -a colour photocopy of a portrait of a teenage boy on a beach [probably related to the exhibition and associated publication 'Now See Hear! Art Language and Translation' by Ian Wedde and Gregory Burke for the Wellington City Art Gallery in 1990]. -five brown manila folders housing five colour photographic collages of locations around Whanganui, includes: Maraekowhai historic reserve on Whanganui River, showing tramping party rest stop, nui poles, and Ohura Falls; Kowhai Park playground; Dublin Street bridge and houses on Whanganui River; a view of Whanganui township from across the river; and corrugated iron warehouses, including 'Wanganui Boats NZ', on the riverside. -includes a photographic print envelope which is heavily annotated by Ian Wedde and originally housed colour negatives of the 1993 Asia-Pacific Triennal of Contemporary Art'. Description: Interview with Manawanui Pauro (Aged nearly 100). Recalls her childhood growing up on the banks of the Whanganui River. Mentions her parents and being raised by her grandparents. Talks about her memories of Whanganui River when it was full of canoes and food. Recalls going to school at Upokongaro and the pastimes including canoe competitions. Describes the traditional role and work of Maori women. Talks about marriage, how elders did not support marriage to Pakeha, and her own arranged marriage. Mentions her husband fighting in the Second World War while she brought up three children. Describes the farms that her husband worked on. Talks about her belief in the religion of Tohu Kakahi (Parihaka) and in taniwha, the guardians of the Whanganui River. Talks about the traditional values of Maori, her own vision for her people.
