Description: Business card for a Napier publishing company run by Judy Siers features a small print from a 1960s design by Earl Hingston, of the historic house "Millwood" in Ngaio, Wellington. It was later the home of Judy Siers and renamed "Chew Cottage" after its original owner. The Earl Hingston printing block for the Chew Cottage image is held at Drawings Paintings & Prints Curios-049-006 Quantity: 1 b&w art print(s). Physical Description: Offset print on card, 56 x 90 mm. Description: Collection comprises original and typescript copies of letters sent by John and Samuel Dutton Powdrell to their family members, between 1857 and 1859, and in 1879. Letters are sent from areas throughout Hawkes Bay, except letters written in 1879 that are sent from Kakaremea. Letters discuss the landscape and climate in New Zealand, conditions of settler life in Hawke's Bay (Ahuriri, Te Aute, Otawhao) and South Taranaki (Kakaramea), the cost of land and food, farming activities, and local or family news. John Dutton Powdrell also describes his voyage to New Zealand. Collection reference number and arrangement updated, December 2016. John Dutton Powdrell arrived in New Zealand from Cheshire, England, in January 1857. He found work as a farm cadet for Samuel Williams near Te Aute.
