Description: Photographs taken by Damer Farrell from circa 1979 to 2008 of Greymouth and other localities in the West Coast. Collection comprises analogue film negatives and photographic prints taken from 1979 to early 2000s, and and born digital photographs taken from early 2000s to 2008. The images primarily depict the people, events, and environs of Greymouth. One small set of film negatives negatives relate to the Cave Creek tragedy. Also includes a small amount of born digital files relating to the No Non-cents political party and local body elections in Buller in 2004. Source of title - Title supplied by Library Arrangement: Photographic prints were mostly found loose amongst the negatives, with some originally enclosed in brown paper bags with annotated dates, and others in commercial processing wallets with annotations, but no other discernible original order. The born digital photographs were grouped by topic and date and delivered in named digital folders, arranged in an alphabetical subject file order. The original order of the analogue and born digital arrangement of the photographs was retained by the archivist where possible. Damer Farrell worked for many years as a commercial photographer based in Greymouth on the West Coast. He also acted as a freelance photographer for the 'Greymouth Star' newspaper. During his career he transitioned from working with a film camera to using a digital camera in his work; and for some years he used both types of camera.
