Description: Comprises an autograph book (ca 1924-1929) kept by Annie Lucy Welch (`Nan'), daughter of William Kemble Welch and Ruby Mary Alberta Welch, nee McLachlan, and including many entries from Davenport, Iowa; a diary for 1924, probably kept by William Kemble Welch, during the family's stay in Davenport; and a memorandum book, covering the years circa 1885-1892, kept by George Henry Welch. Description: Photographs relating to Anders Hansen. These include a trip to the Auckland Islands on the Government steamer,`Hinemoa' in 1925. Mrs Hamiora's house in Taupo photographed in 1974. Maori artifacts collected by Anders Hansen's family when he was lighthouse keeper at Little Papanui Inlet from 1916 to 1919. In 2005 the Maori artifacts were sold to the Otago Museum where they now form the Anders/Tiller Collection. Description: Folder comprises letter from Laracy to Rhys Richards detailing Laracy's article on Captain William Ross. Accompanying the letter are copies of newspaper articles relating to Ross, and an annotated copy of a transcription of `The diary of Captain William Ross'. Laracy notes the provenance of the transcription and the diary itself are both unknown. The original diary was written in 1927 and records Ross' career as a sailor, trader and captain in the South Pacific. Ross traded between Auckland and Niue, Samoa, Tonga and the Cook Islands. For 25 years he captained the barquentine Ysabel between Auckland and Niue. Ross was also involved with Mr A Tindall in the purchase of property and trading stores in the Tongan group of islands. Also a photocopy of a newspaper cutting relating to Falcon Island in the Tongan group of islands. Description: Chiefly photographic prints and corresponding negatives, chiefly images taken by John Scobie at ceremonies and gatherings on 21-22 November 1998 celebrating Tongariro National Park's dual World Heritage site status. This event also celebrated the 25th anniversary of the World Heritage Convention of 1972. Also copies (made by a friend of Scobie's) of early photographs of the area, including the building of the Tongariro Chateau. Also a photograph of Mangawhero Timber Company bridge on the Mangawhero River taken circa 1920s by an unidentified photographer. Includes photographs depicting the centenary of the completion of the North Island main trunk line, including the re-enactment of the drving of the last spike, taken Nov 2008 by John Scobie. Also includes a photograph album of images of the centenary celebration of the driving of the last spike on the North Island Main Trunk railway in 1908.
