Description: Programme booklet with cover illustration of a clown playing a guitar, by Alan Raphael. Contains a message form the mayor John Miller, and the Prime Minister J G Coates; a short account of the tradition of May Fair Week and its first celebration in Southland in the previous year, 1927. Contains a three-page history of Southland and a three-page description of Invercargill. There is a photograph of two men dressed as the May Fair Mayor and Mayoressuding a procession, illuminations, children's sports, "A night in Venice", the Grand Pageant of Southland, poultry show, axemen's carnival, grand military tattoo, procession of illuminated and decorated lorries and cars, and grand fancy dress masked balls in various halls. On the sixth day there was a children's pet parade, children's costume parade, and dancing in costume. The final pages bescribe Gore, Nightcaps, Riverton, Otautau and Lumsden. Description: Programme with introductory essay giving numbers of dead and woundedthe terms of the peace, , changes in high command, declarations of war, battles in which New Zealand soldiers fought. The centre spread gives the programme on People's and Children's day 19 July 1919, and the Peace Thanksgiving Service on Sunday 20 July. The next page gives the programme for Military Day Monday 21 July. The next day was a Grand Spectacular Display in Rugby Park in memory of fallen footballers. Determined to succeed in his chosen profession he headed to Matuara...but not a bank in sight. Puzzled, he raced to Wyndham..."This is getting serious" he muttered. Then it crossed his mind - which is not a long journey for Ned - try Bluff...but nothing! Otautau was the last straw. Before he made a complete pillock of himself, wandering the countryside with a tin can on his head...Ned moved to Australia..where he found a bank...or two. Quantity: 1 A4 size laser copy..
