Description: Two rows of women with poi, front row kneeling and back row standing. Their tag cloaks are folded on the ground in front. They are wearing piupiu over white skirts and [bracken?] draped over their bodice. The man at the far end is holding a taiaha,and the man at the left is holding a patu and wearing a feather cloak (kahu huruhuru). Taken at Kaiwhaiki, ca 1900 by William Henry Thomas Partington. Description: A large haka party crouching down waiting to perform the haka on the occasion of the visit of the Duke & Duchess of York & Cornwall to Rotorua in 1901. Standing in front of the haka party is a woman holding a taiaha. She is wearing a dark-coloured long sleeved blouse, and a piupiu over a long plaid skirt. There is a large ring on her left hand. Description: Maori men in front of the Moutua flag. Copy of photograph originally taken circa 1900, probably by W H Partington of Whanganui. "...a banner known as the Moutoa Flag, was worked by the ladies of the [Wanganui] district and presented to the loyal Maoris. It was the inspiration of Mrs Logan, wife of Lt. Col. Logan, officer commanding the Imperial Forces stationed in Wanganui, that some practical expression of their gratitude from the ladies of the district be made to the loyal Whanganui chiefs to honour their victory against the Hauhaus at Moutoa Island.
