Description: Map showing old military installations from the New Zealand Wars, 1843-7 and the home guard sites of New Zealand Army in World War II. Sites from the New Zealand War include Te Rangihaeata's stronghold (1846), the site of a chapel and the colonial cemetery at Pauatahanui, military trenches (one named McKillops), the barracks of the 65th regiment, the officer's quarters, the Boulton's Hotel of 1847, Troopers Hill, isolated Maori grave along Paekakariki Hill Road, the landing stage of the 58th and 65th regiments, Tandy's constablulary's post and the Waitaha Maori at Ration Point. Sites during World War II include the home guard headquarters of 1941 at Jones Deviation, the 1939 New Zealand Army Unit and United States Marines 2nd division near Kakaho Stream, as well as the Duck Creek saw mill at Bradey's Bay. Description: Surveyed cadastral map showing land blocks in Upper Hutt, section 199, part 64 and 65, along part of the Hutt River. Sections show acreage (between 18 and 94), and property owners are written on sections: A G Tollemache, R Park, J Kelham, D Lewis, Robinson. 'Crown grant' is written beside the acreage of the properties of Tollemache, Kelham and Lewis. Includes several pencil annotations of survey measurements and calculations. A second, very small, sketchmap, drawn in pencil, includes a note that it was commissioned as an acreage survey for Mr Cook, part of Mrs Ray Johnson's property, Hutt Main Road, Petone, January 1914. Includes several survey calculations, and appears to be a preparatory sketch only. On the reverse of the map are several survey measurements and calculations, and lines, and no title or text.
