Description: Published by A H and A W Reed, 1935. Also includes a letter, dated 28 January 1934, from an unknown author who resided at Otorohanga, who was related to the Mair and Greenway families. The letter writer speaks of growing up in Russell, at Bishop Pompallier's house, which according to the writer was 'a ruin - before we lived in it'. Also includes clippings of articles relating to the Mair family, dated 1933. The book contains a handwritten message to James Cowan written from the author, dated 1935. Description: Reminiscences of the Bay of Islands, 1830s-1840s; letter from Fairburn's sister, Esther Hickson (1908); and extract on Hongi Hika from Carleton's life of Henry Williams. Records an early amputation of an infected leg carried out by William Williams, assisted by E T Fairburn, at Paihia, on a Mr Gray, a blacksmith, ca 1832. Mention of "first game of cricket in New Zealand" at Paihia, ca 1832 or 1833.
