Description: Reminiscences of the Bay of Islands, 1830s-1840s; letter from Fairburn's sister, Esther Hickson (1908); and extract on Hongi Hika from Carleton's life of Henry Williams. Records an early amputation of an infected leg carried out by William Williams, assisted by E T Fairburn, at Paihia, on a Mr Gray, a blacksmith, ca 1832. Mention of "first game of cricket in New Zealand" at Paihia, ca 1832 or 1833.
