Description: The first of three horizontal frames shows a quiet scene with mountains and forest and includes text that reads 'Deep in the woods a creature stirs and sniffs the wind...' The second frame shows a close up of the trunks of forest trees with a sinister figure disappearing into the gloom; it includes text that reads 'Five hundred elderly are trapped in a hall, it can't wait...' The third frame shows Winston Peters making a speech; text reads 'With some difficulty, they give it a rousing standing ovation... and he says 'I'm back, and I'm still angry...' Winston Peters served as Minister of Maori Affairs in the Bolger National Party Government before being sacked in 1991 and losing party endorsement for his Tauranga seat. He returned to Parliament in 1993 as an independent, after defeating Gail McIntosh National MP for Lyttelton and then formed his own party, New Zealand First in July, shortly before the 1993 election when he kept his Tauranga seat as an independent, to be greeted by his elderly devotees, after he was sacked by the National Party and after he won the bye-election but before the launch of NZ First in July. In the background Prime Minister Joe Ward and another politician are playing games with a 'seat'. Published in 'Grant, Ian F. Public Lives - New Zealand's Premiers and Prime Ministers 1856-2003 (Book title)' 2003. Extended Title - The Hon. T. Mackenzie, Minister for Commerce and Agriculture in the Ward Government, has suffered the loss of his seat after three consecutive sittings of the Electoral Boundaries Commission. After being driven to Waikouaiti by the abolition of the Waihemo seat, he had to stand for Taieri at the last election, though his constituency being again done away with. This year's census figures necessitated the transference of one seat from the South to the North Island, and again Mr. Mackenzie was the victim. He announces his intention of contesting another seat, not yet named, but the opinion is generally held that he will be sent to London to fill the High Commissionership shortly to be vacated by Sir William Hall-Jones. Description: Shows two nests on the branch of a tree: the Auckland Hospital Board nest and the Whare Paia nest. A caricature of Titewhai Harawira depicted as a bird is shown in the Whare Paia nest, and an unknown man from the Auckland Hospital Board is represented in the nest on the left. A bird representing Ken Mason flies overhead, and has defecated into the faces of the inhabitants of both nests. A kiwi at lower right comments: "One in the eye for arrogance!" Extended Title - New Zealand truth The Mason Report concerned \"procedures used in certain psychiatric hospitals in relation to admission, discharge or release on leave of certain classes of patients\". The report was critical of Whare Paia, scheme was a service for Maori mental health patients, wherein it was hoped to bring together Maori and pakeha treatments and methods. The report criticised the scheme for lack of direction, purpose and structure. The title\" One flew over the cuckoo's nest\" is a reference to the American motion picture of the same name (1975, from a 1962 novel by Ken Kesey) set in a mental institution. Description: Gordon Coates and his wife on tour. Most of these photographs relate to Coates' as MP and Minister of Public Works. Most of the events record the trials and tribulations of journeying to remote parts of New Zealand to open bridges, post offices, power plants etc. The album also records some of the social and recreational events associated with the tours. According to Gordon Coates' daughter, Mrs Sheila Pryde, this album belonged to Gordon Coates' wife Marjorie, who collected, and may have taken some of the snaps when she accompanied her husband travelling in various parts of New Zealand.
