Description: Caricature of Colin Meads. Shows Colin Meads lying naked on a rugby field. Two rugby balls are covering his private parts, he has a studded wristband on protecting his injured wrist, is drinking champagne from a glass representing South African Airways, and has a tatoo reading, bruderband on his right shoulder. In the foreground is a voodoo doll of David Lange with pins all through it. A note on the side, refering to the doll, reads, a small gift from Transvaal. Refers to Colin Meads as co-manager of the Cavaliers tour of South Africa in 1985. It was a secretly organised rebel tour of the All Blacks calling themselves the Cavaliers. A court injunctin had effectively blocked an official All Black tour. The Lange government was also against sporting relations with South Africa. Redrawn original held at B-154-035. Copy of a cartoon published in the National Business Review, 13 June 1996. Redrawn for the New Zealand Cartoon Archive Guts and Glory exhibition 1 January 1999. Exhibited in 'Guts and Glory' an exhibition of rugby cartoons, organised by the New Zealand Cartoon Archive Trust in association with the Alexander Turnbull Library, National Library of New Zealand, at the National Library Gallery, 15 July - 7 November 1999, and then touring until 2001. Curated by Susan Foster. Extended Title - The loveable Colin Meads recuperating after a severe wrist-slapping from the ferocious Rugby Union. Colin's star sign is Capricorn the Springbok. Favorite TV character: The Incredible Hulk. Turn-ons: Fence posts, goal posts, Oil of Wintergreen, pissing in Pretoria's pocket.
