Description: Comprises letters from William Webb to his mother and sister, Ellen, describing his life and activities from his various postings in Katikati (briefly), Waipukurau and Napier as a telegraph operator. Also, letters from William Webb's nephew, Arthur Foote, to his family from France and Sling Camp during World War I, together with greeting and christmas cards of that era. Source of title - Supplied William and Ellen Webb, son of William Webb and Frances Harris, who were originally from Truro, Cornwall, were born in Hokitika. William became a telegraph operator with the Post Office and worked in Kumara, Waipukurau and Napier. Arthur Foote was the son of Ellen and nephew of William Webb. Description: Murie describes Joosten's life since he came to New Zealand from Schleswig-Holstein about 1885, his subsequent career and the establishment of the company, Joosten and Murie, in 1907. Although naturalised in 1893, Joosten's life changed in 1918 when he was arrested as an alien and interned on Somes Island in 1918. Murie has supplied background information about Joosten and has used extracts from files held by National Archives to elaborate on the problems Joosten endured. Source of title - Supplied title Murie is a descendant of William Murie who was in partnership with Henry N C Joosten. In the process of researching the company he became interested in Joosten. Description of voyage to England in 1881 on the Waitangi In the front is a hand-copy of a document the original of which was in the hand of Sir Arthur Sullivan. It includes a few bars of music on what was a Royal College of Music letterhead; it is dated July 24, 1884, and where Sullivan's signature wouldl have been is typed "Arthur Sullivan (signed)".
