Description: Express train on an excursion from Christchurch, nearing Greymouth. The steam locomotive is NZR number 808, Ab class. Taken by an unidentified photographer between ca 1956 and 1967. Library client gave information about the locomotive that established the date range, 2009. Locomotive 808 was in service between 1925-1967. (Information from the 'Register of New Zealand steam locomotives 1863-1971' by W G Lloyd) This class of locomotive was not transferred to Greymouth from Canterbury until 1955-1956 (info from Russell Postlewaight, 2009).
