Description: Album of photographs, some prints, some contacts from 35mm film, taken by Professor John Salmon in Wellington. Most of the images describe his use of different camera lenses and filters. Many of the scenes are taken from Professor Salmon's window at Victoria University of Wellington, showing different moods in different weather patterns. They include early morning, afternoon, and night views, northerly wind and southerly wind cloud patterns, including a southerly storm. He also has a large number of images of Wellington Harbour and wharves, again taken in different lights, showing ships, reflections and buildings. Other sequences show views of the Hutt Valley, Silverstream, and Glenmore Street in Wellington, many taken on misty early mornings. Description: Photographs of and relating to the Wilson family ex Eketahuna. William M Wilson was born in Glasgow in 1868, coming to New Zealand when 8 years of age. He was apprenticed to John Fitchett, coach builder in Wellington, then with other firms including Rouse & Hurrell. He was employed by Wilfred Woolf in Eketahuna in 1894, and subsequently bought his business, and entered the firm of Kibblewhite and Wilson. See Cyclopedia of New Zealand, Wellington Provincial District, Eketahuna. They include: yachts under construction or repair, a dry dock between two rows of boatsheds, the boatshed of the Brighton Power Boat Club, a yacht called the Igdrasil in the fiords, the Muratai in 1946, the Banika at Akaroa in 1948, the Hex leaving Wellington for the Sydney to Hobart yacht race, the Patari and Pacific at Purau, Lyttelton (taken by Allson Wright of Hereford Street, Christchurch), some men and women on the launch Tarepa ca 1940s, the Ludwig in 1925, and the Rawene in 1934. Also included are a photograph of a man working on an exhibit of a pa tuwatawata in the Dominion Museum with the maihi of a meeting house or pataka behind him and other carvings along the walls and a photograph of two men working in the taxidermy department with a variety of birds and bird skeletons on the table. Description: Wellington Harbour Board topographic and survey map of the Patent Slipway Company's property on Evans Bay Road, now known as Evans Bay Parade. The area includes sites of two slipways and jetties, engine rooms, engineering, blacksmith, boilerhouse, tinsmiths, paint, basket and upholstery workshops, general and bond stores, timber rack, brick garage and laundry. Respective building materials are listed. The boundary, a wharf and a limit of reclamation are marked with the total acreage to the outer boundary. Reservoirs, stormwater overflow and sewer drains are marked, as are property boundaries of post, rail and wire fences with the position of wooden dwellings, some outside of the Company's area on Kainui Road. Picket, board and iron fences are marked, as is a vegetable garden and fowl house. Includes high water marks by Ward in 1887, sites of dolphins, a beach, concrete wall and stone pitching. Evans Bay Road is described as bitumen and its width is given. Additions to the base map are various acreages and boundary measurements of the workshop and store areas of the Patent Slipway Company's property at Evans Bay. Acreages of hilly and flat land are totalled separately. A pencilled note gives valuations for the acreage 3.2.20 at 4000 pounds sterling an acre, also for 'Northeast triangle' at 3200 pounds sterling.
