Description: Photographs of a range of industries in New Zealand, possibly related to the Christchurch International Exhibition in 1906-1907. Industries include animal related products including wool, from fellmongery to transportation and finally weaving; meat works, including the slaughter house, the mutton cooling room, shipping fozen mutton, the beef cooling room; butter, at the Hautapu Butter Factory, showing butter in the factory, and delivering butter at Ngaruawahia Railway Station; the Waikato Bacon Factory, and pig carcases. Other industries include flax, with scenes showing a flax mill, carting flax to the mill, stripping, washing and drying flax, and also grading hemp and loading bales of it at Auckland wharves; kauri timber industry, from felling the trees, hauling logs by bullock, floating logs over the Wairoa Falls, sorting timber at the mill booms, timber mill on the Wairoa River, and a million feet of sawn timber at the mill. The latter part of the album shows scenes of gold dredging on the Buller Gorge, hydraulic gold-mining at Ross, Westland; coal mining at Brunner; kauri gum diggers and a warehouse storing kauri gum; and finally views of the Sugar Refinery in Auckland, and a warehouse filled with sacks of sugar. Description: Railway trains, locomotives, and carriage interiors in New Zealand, Britain and North America. The Volcanic Plateau and Wairakei geothermal project. Most of the album shows ships on Auckland Harbour and at the wharves, including the launch 'Manu', used to provide "Captain Cook Cruises" circa 1980, and the refurbished waterfront and cast iron gates near the Ferry Terminal Building. There are also shots of people taking the sun in this area. The final section records some of the demolition and rebuilding in Auckland during the 1980s. Rationalist House also features. A paddle steamer is stationed on her near side, and there are two more at the left of the picture. Description: Three maps of Rangitoto survey district. The first (Accn 1828) shows cadastral information of blocks I, II, V, X11 in the Tiritiri survey district, namely Motutapu Island, with reference to O.L.C. 164, DP 12402, land lots, the Defence reserve, Hurakia (Rakino) Island, and Waiheke Island's Matiatia Bay. The second (Accn 1829) shows blocks X, XI, XIII of Rangitoto and Otahuhu survey districts, specifically the Tamaki River, Karaka Bay, Motukorea or Brown's Island, the base of Motutapu Island, and the Motuihi Island domain in the Waitemata Harbour. Description: Photographs probably taken by George William Barltrop, between 1900 and 1905. The images follow on from McIntosh album 15, (these are pages 815-835) starting at Opunake (a church building). Pihama (a memorial to members of the crew of the barque Lizzie Bell which was wrecked off Oeo, 24th July 1901), a view of the Oeo Hotel (F. Morgan, proprietor), and a view of the mast of the Lizzie Bell standing as a memorial at Pihama. These are followed by a panorama of Parihaka (p. 822-823), and a portrait of a man named Ruru, at Parihaka. The rest of the album has scenes in the Auckland area, including a view of Queen Street in which the chemist shop of Charles J Ratgen is clearly visible. A series of images show various Maori artifacts on display at the Auckland Museum. Scenery in Auckland includes the Auckland Domain, Epsom, Tamaki, Auckland Harbour, Rangitoto, St Heliers, Mount Hobson and Mount Eden. Two church buildings are seen, one at Opunake, and the remains of a stone church at Tamaki. A group of photographs show horse-drawn carriages decorated with flowers for a floral fete (p 835-838).
