Description: Album of photographs, some prints, some contacts from 35mm film, taken by Professor John Salmon in Wellington. Most of the images describe his use of different camera lenses and filters. Many of the scenes are taken from Professor Salmon's window at Victoria University of Wellington, showing different moods in different weather patterns. They include early morning, afternoon, and night views, northerly wind and southerly wind cloud patterns, including a southerly storm. He also has a large number of images of Wellington Harbour and wharves, again taken in different lights, showing ships, reflections and buildings. Other sequences show views of the Hutt Valley, Silverstream, and Glenmore Street in Wellington, many taken on misty early mornings. The last scenes are coloured photographs showing some of the decorations erected for the Royal visit of Queen Elizabeth II, in January 1954. Quantity: 1 album(s) Album(s). Description: A base map of Wainui sewerage disposal scheme has been used to show the treatment works, the sites of the pump, gravity sewer and outfall, some of which are referred to in a key. The area of the map is from the Hutt River and Seaview Road following the coastline to the Baring Head lighthouse. Bays and settlements are named, as is Ward Island. Somes Island is marked but is unnamed. Inland, Fitzherbert and Moores Valley Road are named, as is the settlement of Wainuiomata. Sugarloaf and Mount Grace are marked, as is a site of a cottage, a grass paddock and an area of gorse. Gollans Stream and the Orongorongo River are named. The Wainuiomata River is unnamed, and an adjacent track or road is marked which the line of sewage system follows to the outfall at Fitzroy Bay. Subdivisions between Gollans Stream and the Orongotongo River are numbered with some acreages and owners' names. Names include ED, Boys' Brigade, W.C. Water Supply Board, Petrie, Bruce Galbraith, D. Description: Album of photographs taken by John Tenison Salmon, including many contacts from 35 mm film, chiefly related to Wellington Camera Club outings. Others relating to photographic outings relate to the Photographic Society of New Zealand, Palmerston North regional meetings in October and November 1956. Many of the photographs show his interest in different lights and shapes, and he often gives details of lenses and filters used. Examples are winter light and shade at the Massey Memorial, a ploughed field near Palmerston North, the new entrance foyer and stairs when the Easterfield Science Block opened at Victoria University of Wellington in June 1959, still life images, flowers, cloud formations, ripples on sand, and light and shade along the Wellington Wharves. Description: Drawn on a published map, the annotations depict river discharge limits into the sea and seasonal limits of sport fishing areas. A handwritten reference key denotes river and smooth water limits of river mouths, major harbours and straits in blue. The red shaded area denotes extended and partially smooth limits of outer harbours, part of the Hauraki Gulf, Firth of Thames, the top of the Coromandel peninsula and around Great Barrier Island. Two semicircles outlined in green are not included in the reference key but probably denote extreme limits. One extends from Sail Rock around the Mercury and Alderman Islands to a point south of the Tairua River, while the second extends from a point south of Bream Tail around Little Barrier Island to the vicinity of Motuora Island. Green lines, drawn from Bream Tail eastwards and northwards, extend to the latitude of Wide Berth Island which denote an area of seasonal sports fishing, including dates. Description: Photographs taken by John Tenison Salmon between 1927 and 1955, mostly in the Wellington Region. Some are art photographs, including still life images of carvings, cloisonne ware and porcelain, and some are tinted. One sequence shows the Dominion Museum and Art Gallery, both interior and exterior views. Some were taken in April 1936 before the building was furnished; others were taken later in 1936 and 1937, including the Kauri Hall, the Sculpture Hall, the Art Gallery, the National Portrait Gallery, the Academy Gallery, the Maori Hall, and the entrance vestibule. Civic events are shown in illuminations at the Government Buildings for the King George V Silver Jubilee on 12th May 1935; the Carillon tower floodlit for for the coronation of King George VI; and night photographs of the New Zealand Centennial Exhibition in 1940, including the Australian and British pavilions. Wellington is shown in views from various hills and rooftops. Specific trips and occasions include a Waikaremoana trip in 1930; the Victoria University College Natural History Society trip to Butterfly Creek in 1933; a Camera Club outing near Mangaroa Hill in 1938; and celebrating Xmas in Auckland in 1952. Description: Drawn on a published map of Mayor Island to Poverty Bay with an extended portion of another map glued to include the area from Mayor Island to the Mercury Islands. The annotations depict extended river and partially smooth water limits at various points around the coastline from the Mercury Islands to Poverty Bay. The limit for Gisborne fishing boats extends from Cape Runaway to Poverty Bay. A reference key is included which states that river and smooth water limits are coloured blue and one area is prominently named Te Kaha river limits. Extended and partially smooth water limits are coloured red and three areas are prominently named Tauranga; Whakatane, Ohiwa and Opotiki; Te Kaha extended river limits. The Tauranga extension for fine weather only, at the discretion of the Inspector of Fisheries, is coloured green. 'Opotiki extreme limits' covers the approximate area between White Island and Whale Island. An additional area has been shaded green for the extended river and partial limit from Whangamata and Tauranga to Mayor Island, with details written in biro added at a later date. Also marked in biro are three anchorages for launches, one at Waihau Bay. 'George Siroper 9/1/25' is handwritten adjacent to reference key, at centre top of map. Signature hard to decipher.
