Description: View of Auckland Harbour with steam passenger ferry Toroa sailing towards the wharves, showing the city and Mount Eden in the background. Photographed between 1926 and 1929 by an unknown photographer. Other - Note on back of print reads `12184 Auckland (Rangitoto the Ferry)' David Balderson identified the ferry as the Toroa, and the date as the late 1920s by the presence of the steamer Wakatere at Northern Wharf. Wakatere stopped running in about 1928. (Information recieved January 2009). The Toroa was built in 1925 by George Niccol of Auckland for the Devonport Stream Ferry Co. It was taken out of service in 1980. It was the last steam passenger ferry built for Auckland Harbour, and has been restored from 1998 onwards.
