Description: Shows a view of the head of the Waikato River, looking south across Lake Taupo to Mounts Tongaririo, Ngauruhoe and Ruapehu in the distance. On the right bank, in the foreground, is a Maori pa, with a pataka or food store shown most prominently. Both banks of the river are densely covered in trees, including pine and cabbage trees, and bush. A canoe or waka with six occupants glides away from the pa across the river. Inscriptions: Recto - bottom right - J S Alington 20.1.24; Verso - top left - Copied from a black and white picture.
