Description: Album of black & white photographs taken between January 1920 and September 1927 showing the physiography and geological formations, native flora, rivers and valleys, panoramic views with individual peaks named, and members of tramping clubs in the Tararua District. Various trips include visits to the No. 1 Gorge and No. 3 Gorge during the building of the Mangahao Hydroelectric dam; partial ascent of Mt Hector in 1921; various attempts to cross the Tararuas between Levin and Eketahuna, with the full crossing achieved March 4-7 1927; the initial outing of the Levin-Waiopehu Tramping Club, May 25, 1927. Description: Panoramic view of a single-storeyed wooden house on a rise on the far left. A man (Mr Goodson?) is standing on the sloping lawn below the house which has a verandah over the entrance. Rhododendrons, some in flower, are at the foot of the lawn. Circular path with trees left and right. Wooden footbridge in the right foreground leads to the house, across a stream. Tree ferns, cabbage trees on both sides of the water. Path on the far side leads up to houses on a ridge.
