Description: Contains miscellaneous lantern slides of New Zealand scenes, mostly dated ca 1907. Likely to have been photographed by Butcher. Landscapes include a hand-coloured slide of a Burton Brothers photograph of Lake Wakatipu from Kinlock, unidentified coastal towns and harbour views (one featuring an obelisk monument), rock formations, and river scenes (some bridges). Images of Wellington include the Provincial Council Building, view of Thorndon (Molesworth Street), and boats on the beach in Island Bay with Tapu Te Ranga Island in the background. Images of Napier include newly planted Norfolk Pine trees on Marine Parade and outer harbour wharf scene. Dunedin Botanic Gardens, hand coloured images of the interior of an unidentified fern houses, and a series of views of Mount Taranaki and the surrounding area are included. Also contains sepia toned images of a geyser and unidentified Maori boys in a hot pool [Rotorua?] as well as a formal portrait of an unidentified Maori girl. Description: Photographs relate to the Hermitage Hotel, and mountains, glaciers and river vallies in the Aoraki/Mount Cook area. The mountain landscape is part of most of the photographs which focus on skiers, singly and in groups, and some in action. Also tramping/climbing groups and tour groups associated with the buses of Mount Cook and Southern Lakes Tourist Company Ltd. There are group photographs of people gathered in front of the Hermitage Hotel, and groups taken outside a two storied corruagated iron lodge built on a mountain side. Subject details within the collection include - A large buldozer that at one point gets stuck in a river. Men snow ball fighting. People standing in water surrounded by floating ice. An American 1938 model Ford De Lux Sedan. A young woman ice skating. People riding rafts made from 40 gallon drums. Groups with sledges. What looks like Public Works Department camps.
