Description: There are three scenes in this cartoon. In the top right some men and a woman are walking along twisting their arms and hands into contortions. One man is saying he never knows what to do with his hands when he doesn't smoke. In the lower left Jim Bolger, the Minister of Labour, is sitting with his hand over his face. In his other hand he is holding a newspaper with the headline 'Kinleith shutdown unions vote to stop mill smoking on April 8'. This is a reference to the strikes in early 1980 at the Kinleith pulp and paper mill. In the lower right Muldoon is reading a memo on the smoke free day fron George Gair, the Minister of Health. Muldoon is proclaiming that he's not going 'to stop smoking-out reds for even one day" - a reference to his dislike of socialist and communists. Description: This cartoon refers to the pay disputes at the NZ Forest Products pulp and paper mill in Kinleith and the Caxton and Tasman mills in Kawerau. Muldoon and another man are painting the centre road lines on forestry roads. The road in one direction has a road sign 'Kinleith no exit' and pointing in the other direction the sign reads 'Caxton by pass'. The roads join to make one road and the road lines are crossing over one another and are broken. The man is saying to Muldoon "we seem to have got our guide lines crossed". Description: There are four scenes in this cartoon. In the top left two men are walking along, teeth chattering, one saying that it is five degrees centigrade and the other saying it feels like five degrees below centigrade. In the top right the caption reads 'although some people were reported to be very hot'. Two men are reading a paper which reads that the Prime Minister has named Socialist Unity Party members. One man is incensed that Muldoon has named him while the other is equally incensed that he hasn't been named. In the lower left the caption reads 'but it is forecast that the disturbed pressure area now affecting the capital'. Muldoon is entering the caucus room holding a document on the Kinleith dispute. In the lower right the caption reads 'could result in a cold snap covering the whole country'. The Beehive is pictured with the words 'right! There's only one solution! Bring back the wage freeze!'.
