Description: Photograph of a Hastings Transport Company bus in 1909. Shows a Dennis bus, with solid tyres, in Havelock North, Hawke's Bay, driven by Mick Hall. Photographer unidentified. Print made many years after the image was taken in 1909. Probably a copy print. The Hastings Transport Company ran in opposition to Nimon and Co on the Havelock to Hastings run. Other - Pascoe's caption, from the Photographic Archive file at 6/1/30, for the first of the set of photographs at 1/4-000701 to 000738, reads: "With hundreds of Land Girls well established as experienced farm hands, it is interesting to see their way of life and work. These thirty-eight photographs give a balanced impression of what is a typical sheep farm..." Description: A Republic Royal Mail bus owned by Graham and Gebbies parked outside the Fernhill Hotel, Hawkes Bay. Photograph taken by Henry Whitehead circa 1920s. Note on back of file print reads: "The bus was owned by "Grahame & Gebbies", left Hastings at approx 7.30 am. Solid tyres and possibly chain driven to the rear wheels, & the make would be "Republic". Jim Painter was the driver in 1921 and drove it for many, many years. Its trip ended at Waiwhare from where it returned to Hastings." Quantity: 1 b&w original negative(s).
