Description: In December 1962 the Pascoe family went for a climbing holiday in the Arthurs Pass area. There are photographs of Dorothy and the girls with mountaineering friend, Michael Clark among the mountains. The album is also a record of the transalpine crossing from the Waitaha in Westland to the Rakaia made by John Pascoe, Michael Clark and Stan Conway in January 1963. Description: Photographs of trips taken in 1925 by an unidentified photographer. On the first trip the photographer goes by car to the Nelson Lakes District, and the Buller River, to the Korere Valley "and so home". The second trip is one travelling to the New Zealand Exhibition at Dunedin in November 1925, though there are no images showing the exhibition. The trip goes from the Buller River; Lake Kaniere; views of the Rimu Dredge; near Jacksons; Otira Station; Otira Gorge; Springfield after a snow fall; Lyttelton Harbour; a visit to the remains of the old homestead at Double Corner, Waipara, with historic white gums; and lastly views from the Summit Road, Akaroa Peninsula. Description: Cadastral and topographic map of Arthur's Pass township showing 109 numbered sections alongside the Bealey River and the railway line. The railway station is marked. Avalanche Creek and Rough Creek intersect blocks of sections. Half of a chain access is noted alongside part of the Bealey River. Roads are shown. Areas of land are divided by colour coding or cross hatching to determine Railway Land or that which is under the control of the Board of Control for Arthur's Pass National Park. Note on left of map states: Arthur's Pass township area edged red is the area vested in the Board, over which they have leasing powers by special Act. Area edged yellow is railway Land and the part of this land with a hatched edging, is the approximate area which the railway authorities have agreed to hand over to the Board. Area shown cross hatched is area which the Hon. the Minister of Lands has agreed to hand over to the Board. Action in this direction is under way. All the rest of the land is already under the control of the Board except the bed of the Bealey River, and action is being taken to bring this under the control of the Board. Description: Photographs taken by John Tenison Salmon between 1933 and 1958. There are various sequences as follows: Museum trip to Lake Waikaremoana, December 1946; Holiday trip in 1937 which included Mohaka, Lake Waikaremoana and Urewera Country; Cass-Torlesse biological trip, February 1936; South Island trip, March 1939; and a Southern Lakes and Hollyford Valley trip in January 1940. The holiday trip in 1937 includes photographs of the Mohaka Viaduct under construction. At the beginning of the album a photograph shows Lake Waikaremoana after 21 years of deterioration due to state Electricity Department actions. This image was taken in January 1958, from approximately the same spot as one taken in February 1937. The Cass-Torlesse biological trip includes an image of "vegetable sheep" (page 48).
