Description: Two bound volumes of 'The 9.5 am' (No 1, Feb 1902 - Vol 2 No 11, Dec 1903). Each volume contains issues of the '9.5 am' magazine, edited by Johannes Andersen. Comprises typewritten text of the magazine, with photographs, original drawings, printed illustrations (and newspaper clippings) from other publications pasted in. The content includes articles, cartoons, jokes, poems, and excerpts. Source of title - Supplied by Library The 9.5 am publication derived its title from the practice of giving civil servants 5 minutes grace after 9am to sign the attendance book before a red line was ruled to identify late-comers. Source: Press, 13 May 1903. The magazine was edited by Johannes Andersen when he was employed as a clerk at the Lands and Survey Department, Christchurch office. F M B Fisher was also employed as a clerk there at the same time, and contributed to the publication. Quantity: 2 volume(s). 0.08 Linear Metres. Description: Norman Kirk, leader of the Labour opposition, steps into Lake Manapouri as two National MPs Duncan MacIntyre and Daniel Riddiford look on from a row boat. One of them remarks, 'I don't mind him jumping into a lake - but just not this one!'. The raising of the water level of Lake Manapouri was a contentious election issue during the 1972 election. The Labour government of Norman Kirk was elected with a platform that included a strong endorsement of the Save Manapouri Campaign. Exhibited in 'The Line-Up' exhibition of 36 cartoons by 36 cartoonists curated by the New Zealand Cartoon Archive and exhibited in the National Library auditorium foyer from 5 April 2002 to mark the tenth anniversary of establishment of the New Zealand Cartoon Archive.
