His secretary has opened the office door to find anti-nuclear protestors outside but cannot say if Muldoon is there or not. In the waste paper basket is a newspaper announcing that Tom Scott, a Listener journalist, is still being barred by Muldoon from accompanying the official delegation to the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting in India in September 1980. He is holding a newspaper with the headline 'Tania Harris leads massive march against disruption'. Muldoon is sitting at his desk reading a book entitled 'Picketing & the law'. Refers to the 'Kiwis Care' march organised by a young woman, Tania Harris, in Queen St, Auckland on 3 March 1981 in which thousands of people rallied to show their disatisfaction with continuing industrial disruption and strikes. The 25 member groups of the Wellington playcentre Association signed a statement for presentation to Dr Smith. Description: Shows a confrontation on a country road, between a minister wielding a quill pen at left, and a plump military gentleman on horseback wielding a sword at right. The minister has his left foot placed on a large broadsheet entitled: "The truth about Takapau". The person featured are probably the Reverend Fred W Boys and Captain Powles (see "Other notes" below). Reminiscent of the saying: "The pen is mightier than the sword". (Concerning the power of Boys' report to the "Manawatu evening standard"). This cartoon was published in the "New Zealand truth" 23 May 1914, above the title "The harsh and boisterous tongue of war". This published cartoon accompanied letters from a member of the New Zealand military forces, and the Reverend Fred W Boys, concerning Boys' report (published in the Manawatu evening standard") on an incident at Takapau military camp, in late April or early May 1914. In this incident, the mounted police (under Captain Powles - possibly Charles Guy Powles) charged rioting soldiers who were protesting against uncomfortable and wet conditions at the camp (See Warren Bayliss' "Takapau - the sovereign years 1876-1976" (1975), pages 95-96). The "New Zealand truth" also ran a Tom Glover cartoon on 9 May 1914, page 4, entitled "Discipline up-to-date", showing armed police quelling a riot at the camp. Description: Images of people and activities at the Dominion Camp held at the Trentham Army Camp in 1930. This was the first nation wide jamboree held by the Girl Guides in New Zealand. There are also images of the ralley which was held in the Drill Hall Maginnity Street, Wellington which was one of the Dominion Camp events (rain had caused this venue to be used instead of Newtown Park). Two sheets of prints record different events and personalities in 1931. There is a group photograph of the Lower Hutt company outside St Jame's Church. Most of the people depicted are identified. An album bound in flour bag covers, depicts events and personalities at the camp at Trentham Race Course for the visit of Lord and Lady Baden-powell in 1935. Description: Photographs of leaders of the Girl Guide Association, Girl Guides, Brownies and Rangers, and various activities throughout New Zealand. The first pages show the move from old headquarter buildings in Hastings to new buildings in Christchurch, in September 1961. They include the transfer of equipment by truck and by air freight, and views of different aspects of the new premises. Later views show visiting Girl Guide leaders attending conferences and training courses; ceremonial occasions attended by Lord Cobham in 1962, and by Sir Bernard and Lady Fergusson. Lady Fergusson was the Dominion President during their term in New Zealand. One section of the album shows activities of Girl Guides and Brownies in the Cook Islands, and also in Western Samoa. A number of the camps were attended by Girl Guides from Pacific countries, with many of the Guides named in the album. Various activities undertaken by the Guides include the sale of Girl Guide biscuits, ANZAC Day commemorations, Thinking Day ceremonies, rallies, and the awards of special badges.
