Each part shows the radio broadcasting a different comment, which are things the man seems fairly indifferent to. The final two parts show the radio broadcasting that it may be losing the Pacific service, and the man seems fairly happy with that. Description: The cartoon shows Robert Mulldoon giving a death certificate to a man representing the 'Gleneagles Agreement' while on the floor, a man representing 'New Zealand's reputation', is commiting suicide with a sword labeled 'the tour'. Refers to the conflict over sporting ties with South Africa during the Apartheid regime and how they affected New Zealand's international reputation. The Gleneagles Agreement declared that the 'member countries of the Commonwealth embrace peoples of diverse races, colours, languages and faiths, and they have long recognised racial prejudice and discrimination as dangerous sicknesses and unmitigated evils. Members are pledged to use all their efforts to foster human dignity everywhere. At their London meeting, the heads of government reaffirmed that apartheid in sport, as in other fields, was an abomination and ran directly counter to the Declaration of Commonwealth Principles, which they made at Singapore on 22 January 1971'. Exhibited in 'Guts and Glory' an exhibition of rugby cartoons, organised by the New Zealand Cartoon Archive Trust in association with the Alexander Turnbull Library, National Library of New Zealand, at the National Library Gallery, 15 July - 7 November 1999, and then touring until 2001. On top of the sheep is a basket called, `New Zealand, the `Ritz' of the world', in this basket is Muldoon and two people asking Muldoon why they are losing altitude. Refers to New Zealand being at the top of the world concerning the lamb and wool market in the early 1980s, the market then dived leaving New Zealand not so well off.
