Description: Album of photographs relating to the Morris family. Many are snapshots, with people identified only by Christian name. Several show groups of children in fancy dress; three are of two boys smoking cigarettes; there are scenes of a group of men on a fishing trip in the Taupo, Tauranga areas; and at the end of the album two images of fishing boats, and fishermen's cottages at Makara. One view is of the house owned by Benjamin Mountfort in Hereford Street, Christchurch. Other - In Alexander Turnbull Library Photograph Archives album index, the album is listed as being phtographed by C H Morris, a postmaster-general in the 1920s. There is no mention of a C H Morris in Wise's post Office Directory, but William Russell Morris is listed as living at 9 Roscoe Terrace, wadestown, and as being the secretary of the Post and Telegraph Department. Godber album 10

Description: Album of photographs chiefly taken by Albert Percy Godber, relating to his family, his work and his interests. Family photographs include portraits of his wife (Laura) and two children (William and Phyllis), and scenes of their home in Whiteman's Valley Road, Silverstream; views of the Hutt Valley including large numbers of cars travelling to Trentham Racecourse, and the Hutt River. Another group of images relate to a holiday at the Mendip Hills Homestead in Canterbury, with scenes of farm life, including haymaking, merino sheep, and farm buildings. During their stay in the South Island Godber also took photographs of Dunedin (including the Ross Reservoir, Otago Boys' High School, Seacliff Mental Hospital, the 1926 Dunedin Exhibition, and the Hillside Railway Workshops); Invercargill (including the Invercargill Railway Workshops); Stewart Island, Moeraki, Tuatapere, Waiau River, Oamaru and Port Chalmers. Various railway stations in Canterbury and Otago, the Burnside Iron Mills, and the Rosslyn Mills. Godber was a volunteer fireman with the Petone Fire Brigade with the album including views of the building, groups of firemen, fire engines and other fire fighting equipment, and a building in Petone damaged by fire. In his work with New Zealand Railways, mainly at the Petone Railway Workshops, he took interior photographs of various buildings, including the Machine Shop and finishing benches, the engine room, lathes, boilers, and fitting shops. He also took photographs of many of the steam engines that were built and worked on at the workshops. One scene shows a group of men watching a fight. Many images show his interest in logging railways, particularly in the Piha, Karekare, Anawhata area. Scenes of logging camps, various methods of transporting logs including bullock teams, logging trains, and dams created and then tripped to send logs down by river, and timber mills. Other topics covered in Godber's photographs are scenes at Maori marae and meeting houses, with some of the people identified; Maori carving and rafter designs; beekeeping, and gold mining. Description: Views of New Zealand taken by Sir Edmund Oswald Teale, who visited New Zealand to attend a meeting of the Australasian Association for the Advancement of Science in Dunedin between December 1903 and January 1904. Images include a number showing geological formation along the route between Napier and Taupo; images of hot springs and mud pools, and the Aratiatia Rapids; Napier and Wellington. Views of the South Island include many in the Mount Cook region, and show various glaciers, including the Tasman Glacier, Hochstetter Glacier, and the Hooker Glacier; geological aspects of moraines, crevasses and moulins associated with glaciers; Lake Pukaki; alpine flowers in the Tasman Valley; a carriage and horses near the Hermitage, with Mount Sefton visible behind; the Mataura River and Bluff. Description: New Zealand scenes including thermal areas in the North Island, and river, mountain and roading scenes in the South Island, taken by various identified and unidentified photographers between about the 1880s and 1900s. Two photographers, Josiah Martin and Patrick Thomas Malaghan took most of the images. Other identified photographers include Edmund Wheeler, F. Finch, A.J. Iles, Charles Spencer, Edward Le Grice, J.V. (James Valentine), and Ross (Photographer, Invercargill). Several of the unidentified photographers are listed under their initials only, and include one with the initials T.S.M (or S.T.M. in a monogram), also A.A.B., R.G., Rooney, Luney (?), and L.M. A large number of those taken by Patrick Malaghan show Skippers Road and the Shotover River, with Pinchers Bluff, Huttons Cutting, Hell's Gate, and Skippers Creek. Thermal areas in the North Island show the Pink and White Terraces before the 1886 eruption of mount Tarawera, and also a number taken after the eruption, including the remnants of Te Ariki Pa. A large number also show various geysers, mud pools and hot springs. One method of crossing rivers is shown with the Hooker Wire Bridge (or Hooker Cage) and a "chair" travelling across a wire in Skippers over the Shotover River. Note on this box reads: "1st Ball Hut print" (no. 33); and "J. Martin "Mt Cook"" (no. 66). Most of the places identified are listed above. Other Titles - Old P.O.P. Description: Album of scenic views of New Zealand, many taken by Thomas Pringle, others taken by photographers from the New Zealand Tourist Department, and others by unidentified photographers. A number are hand-coloured. South Island scenes include Milford Sound, lake and mountain views, and some of Christchurch city. North island scenes include a number in Wellington, with views of city streets, the Chief Post Office, Government Buildings, St John's Church and the railway station. Most of the other North Island views are of tourist destinations, particularly in the thermal regions, with hot springs, geysers and mud pools. There are a large number relating to Maori, especially at Whakarewarewa, with taniko weaving, flax weaving, poi dancers, te hongi, and posed portraits of young girls in front of a meeting house wearing different styles of cloaks.
