Description: Text in the form of a narrative satire on "The pack of cards"; this version tells the story of an illiterate man who remembers the principles of rugby (and certain contemporary sporting and political issues) by looking at individual cards in a pack. Refers to the arrangement by the New Zealand Rugby Football Union and the South African Rugby Football Union, to keep the Maoris from going to South Africa. Dated around 1960 because of its mention of the tour, Don Clarke, and the film starlet Sabrina. There is reference to Dannie [sic] Crven, and King Walter Quantity: 1 b&w photo-mechanical print(s). Description: Entitled 'Wellington at the bay' with the word 'bay' crossed out so that the title reads 'Wellington at bay'. An angry bird (an eagle?) attacks a Wellington rugby player who has been threatening to steal 'Hawkeye's nest egg' from its nest in a tree behind him. The nest egg is the Ranfurly Shield and 'Hawkeye' refers to the fact that Hawkes Bay currently holds it. In fact Canterbury did take the Ranfurly Shield 18-11 from Hawkes Bay on 27 September 1969.
