Description: Transparency slides of Mr E G Williams' (Edmund Gardner Williams'). The first slide shows the house at 48 Hume Street, Crows Nest, Sydney owned by friends of Mr Williams. The next group are taken from a published guide to the Tarawera eruption, some showing the area before the eruption and one of the effects after the eruption. The following slides show scenes on the West Coast and Canterbury. Many relate to geological and rock formations, including Punakaiki pancake rocks, a sample of orbicular granite at Karamea and a high terrace at Karamea, rocks in the sea at Scotts Bay, cliffs on the Rakaia River, and moraine at Franz Josef Glacier. There are also images of white rata, cows heading to milking and on pasture, and a butter factory in Christchurch. The last two images were taken by Neville Hatwell, one of the Tasman Glacier from the air, and one of the road over the Crown range. Slides on this sheet are numbered 746-897, with nos. 756 to 825 (all on Australia) removed for a lecture series which Mr Williams gave when he returned to England. Those removed are filed in a later sequence. Arrangement: Mr Williams transferred slides (nos. 898-899, 901, 903, 905, and 921-922) to create representative collections on New Zealand and Australia which he used in lecture series on his return to England. Description: Throughout the album are many photographs of family, friends, children babies and weddings, some of which are identified by name. The two main places depicted are Christchurch and New Plymouth. Groups on Mount Taranaki/Egmont and views on and arround the mountain also crop up throughout the album. Young women at Canterbury University College, particularly groups associated with Helen Connon Hall. A group of women in the Canterbury Teachers' Training College basketball team. Some photographs of people playing tennis. Touring and camping trips to places like Stoney Creek (near Balclutha?) and the Awakino Valley. Other places represented are Rotorua where a holiday was taken in 1924. Tauranga, its waterfront, and yachting in the harbour. Some views of Wellington. At one point in the album groups of photographs appear that indicate a trip overseas taken in 1926. These include - Elephant and keepers, probably Sri Lanka. Landscape views, India. The Taj Mahal. England which includes photographs of the historian Angus John Harrop and his sister among the colleges of Cambridge University. Group visiting the Malvern Hills. Passengers and officers on the ship `Beltana'. A children's party on the ship. South Africa, Durban and Cape Town. Australia 1926 - Adelaid Sydney and Melbourne. War memorial to New Zealand troops at Le Quesnoy, France. A note inside the front cover of the album states that photographs of England were sent by Angus John Harrop. Quantity: 1 album(s) Album(s). Description: Small poster with an arrangement of text giving details of the performances at Clontarf in Sydney, including tableaux of "The Maori at home", "Appearance of distinguished visitors" (Powhiri raurakau), Whaikorero (address of welcome by the chief). This was followed by a song, poi games (Tirairaka and Poi Paretireti); Matemate (a catch game); Haka, further poi games, and English part-song; Titi Torea (a stick game); two further poi games performed and designed by Guide Bella and featuring canoe-building and a canoe poi dance. The final item was a war cry "Ka mate! Ka mate! Kia kutia". The Maori village at Clontarf, Sydney, opened in December 1909, and performances continued under Maggie Papakura until the group left for England in March 1911 (See Australian newspapers online, retrieved 24 September 2010) Quantity: 1 colour photo-mechanical print(s).
