Description: Postcard shows a Maori settlement on the shores of Lake Taupo, with the outlet in the foreground being the source of the Waikato River. The mountains of the Central Plateau are in the distance. A plume of smoke issues from Ngauruhoe. There is a cabbage tree at the far right, and beyond it are whare and a pataka. Flax grows in the foreground, and there are tree ferns across the water at the left. Verso shows an engraving by W R Bock, of Mt Earnslaw, head of Lake Wakatipu, with a Maori prow carving overarching it. Scene on recto is similar to the chromolithograph by Thomas Ryan: "Lake Taupo and Waikato River, with Tongariro and Ruapehu" (1893), published in the NZ Graphic Christmas number 1893, page 11.
