Description: Album of images collected and partly photographed by Gerald Rainsford Craddock. Images include clipping from newspapers and magazines, and postcards (chiefly of Akaroa, Wellington, Sydney and Perth). The photographs include family photographs, mountaineering trips, scenery in various parts of New Zealand, interior views of the Union Bank of Australia (Wellington Branch) where Gerald Rainsford worked from 1936-1939, and several views of the first Springbok test at Athletic Park in 1937. Description: Photographs of Rose Olive Langton, her sister Violet May Langton, and future husband Gordon Adams, and others, at Camp Creek on Lindis River, 23 September 1933. The photographs show panning for gold, and washing clothes, as well as a posed group portrait in the miners' camp (see Historical Notes). Included together with the photographs are captions describing the people in the scene and what they are doing. Source of title - Title supplied by Library During the depression of the 1930s, the New Zealand government subsidised unemployed workers who were willing to mine for gold in the hostile climate of the Lindis Pass area. The workers lived in a tent camp above Camp Creek. Quantity: 4 b&w original photographic print(s). Mackay album

Description: Album created with aviation pioneer Horatio Murdoch MacKay. Photographs include several in which MacKay was the first man to fly across the Tasman as a passenger, making the flight with Charles Kingsford Smith. One sequence shows Boeing biplane (purchased by New Zealand Airways Ltd in 1934), shipped from Vancouver and assembed in New Zealand, and the first landing at Green Island `Aerodrome'. A number of views of different aeroplanes, both monoplanes and biplanes follows. There are a large number of postcards of Launceston, Jenolan Caves, and Ballarat in Australia, and caves in the Waitomo area of New Zealand. Photographs of a group travelling on a South Island tour by White Star Taxis, a company which MacKay established, including views of the first hotel at Wanaka `The White Star Private Hotel'. One scene shows one of the taxis after an accident. Other scenes show a group skiing, a group at the summit of the Crown Range, and a large group on a motor launch. The last sequence is chiefly family photographs, including several houses, and two different wedding parties; several portraits, possibly of Horatio MacKay's wife Helen Emma (nee Griffiths).
