Description: Possible grave site of Te Rangihiroa, Waiorua - Kapiti Island. Taken by Philip Lionel Barton. Te Rangihiroa, the younger brother of Te Pehi Kupe, died at Kapiti (either Motungarara or Waiorua) in 1842. He was afterwards buried at Waiorua. About the year 1877 Wi Parata (a grandson of Te Rangihiroa) built a wooden fence around the site to protect it from roaming stock. Quantity: 1 b&w original negative(s).

J L Bennett was a caretaker on Kapiti. Grave beyond is probably that of one Rangihiroa. January 1972. Quantity: 1 b&w original negative(s).
