Description: Photographs chiefly relating to artist Gordon Crook, particularly images of him, his home, studio, flowers in his garden, and tapestry work, taken from circa 1990 to circa 2003. (Note however that four art works have creation dates of 1955, 1966/67, about 1979 and 1992). Some have notes written by Crook on the backs. Eight relate particularly to the Victorian Tapestry Workshop in Melbourne, Australia. Some photographs taken by Crook, other photographers unidentified. Comprises: Eight relating to Derum and the Victorian Tapestry Workshops (VTW) in Melbourne, Australia, taken 1993 and circa 1993. Images show a tapestry of a montage with Derum, weaver Cheryl Thornton, and Joy Smith. Further images show (students?) working at the VTW including [Grazyua Bleya ?] weaving 'Maritimes'. Six images of Crook and others at the City Art Gallery in Wellington, in Dec 1993, during the retrospective exhibition of Crook's works, curated by Derum. Images include Edith Ryan, 'Eddie', and Derum. 23 are taken of and around Crook's house at 119 Aro Street, Wellington, including his studio which was under renovation. Description: Biography by Kalnins of her mother-in-law, Irina Kalnins, a ballerina, describing her beginnings in Russia, the family's move to Riga in Latvia, and then to Austria. She describes their arrival in New Zealand in 1949 as displaced persons and subsequent settling in Christchurch where Kalnins established the Kalnins Ballet School in 1953 and in 1959 the Kalnins Ballet Theatre, a touring company was formed.
