Description: 18 negatives of various scenes. Five are of the fire on Mein Street, Newtown in 1901 which show the chimneys left standing, police at the scene and people's belongings piled up in the nearby town belt; three are of a procession in Wellington; two are of a war memorial; two are of a car; two are of a coal mining railway through the bush probably on the West Coast; one is of a woman in a bathing suit about to dive off a yacht with others on board; one if of Panckhurst & Co Drapery Emporium next to the main post office in Westport; one is of a bridge; and one of a crane towed by a steam locomotive probably next to the Hutt Road. Description: Publicity photographs taken by various unidentified photographers for New Zealand Railways. The only identifying information is a few pencilled notes giving some locations, but there are no captions identifying people. There is a large sequence showing events surrounding the first celebrations marking the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi on 6th February 1934 attended by Lord Bledisloe. He had purchased the site, and donated money for the Treaty House renovations in 1932. The celebrations brought 10,000 Maori to Waitangi. The images show huge crowds, haka parties, various iwi performing, and parties of dignitaries including Lord and Lady Bledisloe, Joseph Gordon Coates and George William Forbes. Other scenes with Lord Bledisloe show him visiting the Waitaki Hydroelectric power station. Views of New Zealand include Government Tourist Bureau accomodation houses including those at Waitomo and the Hermitage (Mt. Cook); accomodation houses at Helensville and Parakai with interior and exterior views, and showing activities available (spa pools, games such as croquet, golf, and bowls); anglers standing by swordfish they have caught; skiing and ski lessons; and waterfalls. Industrial and agricultural views show dairy cows, citrus groves, the Kiwi Bacon Factory, printing presses, and race courses. A number show people at the beach at Mount Maunganui, and a large group picniking. Quantity: 1 album(s) Album(s). Mackay album

Description: Album created with aviation pioneer Horatio Murdoch MacKay. Photographs include several in which MacKay was the first man to fly across the Tasman as a passenger, making the flight with Charles Kingsford Smith. One sequence shows Boeing biplane (purchased by New Zealand Airways Ltd in 1934), shipped from Vancouver and assembed in New Zealand, and the first landing at Green Island `Aerodrome'. A number of views of different aeroplanes, both monoplanes and biplanes follows. There are a large number of postcards of Launceston, Jenolan Caves, and Ballarat in Australia, and caves in the Waitomo area of New Zealand. Photographs of a group travelling on a South Island tour by White Star Taxis, a company which MacKay established, including views of the first hotel at Wanaka `The White Star Private Hotel'. One scene shows one of the taxis after an accident. Other scenes show a group skiing, a group at the summit of the Crown Range, and a large group on a motor launch. The last sequence is chiefly family photographs, including several houses, and two different wedding parties; several portraits, possibly of Horatio MacKay's wife Helen Emma (nee Griffiths). Description: Sets out the conditions of the contest, in which each contestant was required to wear a "Petone" swimsuit, with the Wellington Woollen Company's name-tab attached. The first prize was a trip to Milford Sound or a cash prize of 10 pounds stirling. Verso displays an advertisement for Nash's Leather Arcade in Cuba street Wellington, sellington "Wellington's smartest handbags"; five handbags are illustrated. Evening Post, 6 January 1936, Page 14 reports that the winner of the contest was Miss Ivy Parrott, with 6453 votes. The runner up was Miss Matheson with 4605 votes. Two copies held.
