Description: Copy of topographic manuscript map of Kapiti Island, with cadastral and Māori historical information. Shows several pā sites, including Wharekahu Bay Pa, Taepiro Stream Pa, 'Rangitira Point Pa'. Shows land subdivisions, such as Maraetakaroro Kapiti No. 2, subdn 2B and Waiorua Kapiti no. 5, subdn 1B. Identifies Māori place names, the residence of Te Rauparaha and 'Rangihaieta' (Te Rangihaeata), the residence of Mr A S Wilkinson, whaling stations on surrounding islands. Beside the map are notes on early HMS ship visits to the island. Total area for the island is given as over 4855 acres. Annotation on map before copying: Sale plan W 35. It was formerly assumed that this map is a photocopy from the manuscript reproduced in 'The stirring times of Te Rauparaha (Chief of the Ngatitoa) / by W.T.L. Travers. Description: A base map, Plan of Section 23 Ngarara, Kaitawa S.D. Block III, near Waikanae, has been used to name fields belonging to the Elder family farm. Boundaries of the fields are marked on the base map with acreages and a few include the name H. Elder. The site of the Elder family home is marked. The property has the Waikanae River, Wellington and Manawatu Railway, and the Hutt-Waikanae Road as boundaries. A sum total of acreages was handwritten on the base map, Other names of landowners included are C.C.H., W.H. Field, Beachams. Title handwritten on reverse of map Waimahoe is the name of N.L. Description: Survey map with cadastral markings of sections 1-3, Block 5, at Pencarrow Head, with acreage. Boundaries for drainage board land, Crown land (including that reserved for lighthouse) are shown but are difficult to decipher. A possible former pa site is shown. Maori owners are listed as CT 222/206 EJ Burdan (leasee), CT 222/205 ML 3678l, and CT 352/206 AW Burdan and owners. Section 3 is enlarged in an inset map. Stamped with original survey details, including file number, instructions, reference plan numbers, field book numbers and traverse book numbers. Description: Topographic and surveying map of northern part of Kapiti Island from the Otehou Stream northwards. Topographic features are described and some vegetation is named. Water supplies, walking tracks, sites of McLean's house, a woolshed and sheepyards and a fisherman's hut are marked. Streams and localities have Maori names.
