Description: Contains miscellaneous lantern slides of New Zealand scenes, mostly dated ca 1907. Likely to have been photographed by Butcher. Landscapes include a hand-coloured slide of a Burton Brothers photograph of Lake Wakatipu from Kinlock, unidentified coastal towns and harbour views (one featuring an obelisk monument), rock formations, and river scenes (some bridges). Images of Wellington include the Provincial Council Building, view of Thorndon (Molesworth Street), and boats on the beach in Island Bay with Tapu Te Ranga Island in the background. Images of Napier include newly planted Norfolk Pine trees on Marine Parade and outer harbour wharf scene. Dunedin Botanic Gardens, hand coloured images of the interior of an unidentified fern houses, and a series of views of Mount Taranaki and the surrounding area are included. Also contains sepia toned images of a geyser and unidentified Maori boys in a hot pool [Rotorua?] as well as a formal portrait of an unidentified Maori girl. Description: Drawn on a published cadastral map of the Karewa Township, annotations highlight the native reserve sections in block 1 (14-20, 33-35, 2, 4) and block 2 (22-26, 37, 42-43, 65-66, 71-72, 77, 78, 90-91), sections not to be dealt with at present (block 1, 21-32), police reserve, school site, government buildings reserve, public hospital reserve, M.R., as well as unidentified sections highlighted in blue. The township is on the boundary of the Maketu block, the Kawhia 'M' and 'P' blocks and the Kawhia Harbour. A note on the police reserve reads 'Secs 45 & 46 . I ML 3263 granted to W. C. Scott'. Pencil annotations show public hospital reserve sold to JM Cussen, 14/12/32, Gaz. 1907 p. 3124, Blk IX, Kawhia Nth S.D. Ink annotation under map reads 'These sections are under the jurisdiction of the Waikato-Maniapoto Land Board (offered by tender Nov 1920)'. Base map: Plan of Karewa Township Blk. Description: Photographs of Auckland and Coromandel, taken between 1880 and 1901 by an unknown photographer. Includes views of Parsons & Fowler families (1890), St Heliers Bay (1890), Imperial Troops in the Auckland Domain, an arch erected for the visit of the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and York in 1901, Onehunga Hotel in Princess Street, the Auckland Domain, Views of Northcote, Birkenhead, and Birkenhead Wharf (1880), tradesmen's processions in Domain, and the Mercer Regatta. This group of negatives have crenelated notches along their sides. This indicates that they were manufactured for a Frena Camera. This camera was the first type of film-pack camera. (see "Deja View 37," August 2003, edited and published by Bill Main, Wellington, New Zealand). Information that came with these negatives is filed at PAColl-8960, and is in the Photograph Archive collections sequence. Description: General view of Te Kuiti taken from Awakino Road behind the meeting house. The business premises of Lorigan & Co. (land agents) are visible centre right; the railway station is seen centre left. Photograph taken by William Archer Price. Source of descriptive information - Note on back of file print reads "Te Kuiti 1903 fom behind the meeting house (Info. from Te Tokanganui-a-noho. centennial Programme 1872-1972, p. 45). However, comparing the image in this book with the image being described, at 1/2-000675, it is apparent that Price's photograph was taken later. This can be seen from the growth of trees behind a house in the centre foreground, and from more buildings having been built along the main road in Te Kuiti. Price's image is nearer in date to one taken in 1908 which is seen in "Te Kuiti illustrated, pictorial record 1883-1914" (Turnbull Library, PBox 919.31 TEK 1914, p 17) Inscriptions: Photographer's title on negative - bottom right - Te Kuiti.
