Description: A handwritten letter [in pencil] from J S McDonald relating the events of his prospecting trip with Matthew Barry to Tuhua and Punga Punga Creek [16p], also related newspaper clippings. Clippings, research notes and correspondence relating to Te Porere Pa, including a handwritten letter by Sydney A R Mair [1940] and a typewritten extract of a letter written by Captain Gilbert Mair [27 July 1905] titled 'Fight at Te Porere Pa'. Three handwritten letters by Louis Parore [the first two are signed Ru Parore and Lou Parore, the third is not signed as the end appears to be missing] on the topic of moko, Maori land rights and a very personal response to a letter that James Cowan had written to Parore about a dream he had had in which Parore's late brother appeared. Arrangement: McDonald's letter was 62, Mair's letter was 63 and Parore's letters were 43 in original listing. Quantity: 1 folder(s).
