Some of the images are related to railways, including railway tunnels (e.g. The Caversham Tunnel when under construction circa 1909), and the Hunts Road Tunnel; the Clutha Railway Bridge; the Wingatui Signal Box; the Balclutha Railway Station, railway yards, and sales-yards; railway barns; D-class engine (New Zealand Railways steam-engine No. 355); the Owaka Express; and bush tramway tracks, one sawmill typical of small mills in the Catlins area. Description: Original caption reads: "Forestry spokesman for the Environment and Conservation Organisations (ECO) Mr Guy Salmon unfurls a symbolic unsigned cheque made out to Minginui Sawmills Limited for $500,000 on the steps of Parliament yesterday. "Conservation organisations have been pressing the Government to extend such a loan so that the Minginui mill could afford to install machinery to process exotic (pine) timber at its Whirinaki State forest site. "The cheque, representing a Development Finance Corporation suspensory loan, was presented to the deputy Opposition leader, Mr David Lange, yesterday afternoon as part of a conservation protest at Parliament. This sheet of slides shows hills at Holmridge farm; volcanic ridge at Tokatoka; sawmill and the Tokatoka volcanic rock in the distance; Dargaville township, April 26 Anzac Day procession with band rotunda visible, an old pier on the Wairoa River at Dargaville, cattle sales; a pile of wood blocks at a sawmill; Woodhill showing Peter Hildreth's farm country; sheep on the road beyond Helensville; Kaipara River at Helensville; scenes relating to the flax industry at Waihue showing cabbage trees in a swamp, views of the Northern Wairoa Flax Co. mill showing the buildings, flax in swampland, the flax mill, washed flax fibres, and the manager of the mill holding flax fibres.
