Description: A broadside view of the Gertrude on the high seas in full sail The Gertrude was one of the six ships brought from Nova Scotia to Auckland by the Rev. Norman McLeod. McLeod brought his colonists to New Zealand to avoid religious controversy, took up land at Waipu and remained the patriarchal leader of his flock until his death in 1866.
