The cover wrap shows colour illustrations by A H Messenger of trampers on the Tongariro Crossing, a traditionally dressed Maori girl fishing guide beside a lake, and an open-topped motor car driving beside a lake. Inside is text, with photographs of Rotorua, Guide Rangi at the Model Pah, a Maori welcome at Whakarewarewa, steaming pools, the Waimangu Geyser, Maori cooking food in a hot pool, a Maori hangi, the Bath Building, and a bird's-eye map of the thermal region.
