A record of the British aircraft carrier Indefatigable when it visited Wellington in November 1945. New Zealand houses and a very good wedding breakfast laid out in a private interior of the 1890s. There is a photograph of the Clift house in Washington Avenue, Brooklyn, and of a Christmas gathering at a house in Patanga Crescent associated with the Holm family of the Holm shipping line. Description: Photographs of New Zealand scenes taken between circa 1890s and circa 1940s, chiefly by James Caleb Cornwall. Many images have a brief explanatory captions. Contains images including a kapa haka group performing on a barge, a building decorated for Royal [Coronation 1937?] with cameo portraits of George VI and Queen Elizabeth, animals at a zoo (pelican and [thar?]), a thermal area, and a bush scene. Transportation is featured, with photographs showing trains (locomotives and carriages, including a Fairlie locomotive) and railway architecture (train tracks and Main Trunk Line viaduct) as well as car and horse and cart scenes. Places and buildings include Hastings Main Street, Blenheim Memorial (clock tower and fountain), Palmerston North (including birds on pond [Domain?], a church, shops, and the main square), Arthurs Pass and Porters Pass, a Coromandel homestead, house and garden of Cara [Sawings?], and [Otago Settlers?] Museum, Dunedin. Description: Shows front, side elevations, and a detail of the perforations through the decoration at the top. The inscription reads: "In memory of Mary Elizabeth Griffiths who departed this life November 6th 1868 aged 24 years. Behold we count them happy which endure. James V.11. Weep not for me dear Mother: I am blest / And must leave Heaven if I return to Thee; / For I am where the weary are at rest, / The wicked cease from troubling - Come to me." Description: The journal was probably kept during her mid-teens, with entries mostly concerned with family life and thee comings and goings of local people; Lizzie's last entry was for 2 Nov 1868. On 6 Nov her mother wrote `My poor darling died suddenly at 9 in the evening'. Lizzie has recorded information about her illness over the previous two months, but its precise nature is not mentioned Volume 1 inscribed `Lizzie from Edy, 1 Jany 1861'.
