Description: A collection of postcards and printed views (possibly from a magazine) of New Zealand scenes primarily of towns and cities rather than scenic views. They include one of two Maori women washing clothes at Rotorua, another of the Royal visit in 1927 and a family group of seven men and three women possibly taken in Belfast. A number of the postcards have been used. Also included are five original photographs which have been captioned with the family connections: a soldier in uniform, possibly named Ralph Ferguson; Uncle Henry Babe's wedding photograph; cousin Violet Bradford in America; Albert and Elizabeth (Eliza) Babe (brother and sister) and four others; Thomas and Fanny Babe (grandpa and grandma) with Eliza, Harold, Albert, Olivia, Queenie and Gladys. Includes Maori portraits and groups on marae, including the Duke and Duchess of York meeting Maui Pomare in 1927. Includes a photograph of the crowded deck of the `Waikere' a few minutes before the boat struck land in Dusky Sound in 1910. Also photographs of knighthood being confered upon George Richardson in Samoa; an archaeological site near Rotorua; Kumara, Westland, in 1886; Empire Day celebrations 1905; the first annual apprentice exam held at the Hutt shops, Hutt Valley, in 1930; and sketches of Riccarton House, Canterbury, made by J W Barnicoat in 1844 and R Park circa 1859. Description: Photographs of New Zealand scenes taken between circa 1890s and circa 1940s, chiefly by James Caleb Cornwall. Many images have a brief explanatory captions. Contains images including a kapa haka group performing on a barge, a building decorated for Royal [Coronation 1937?] with cameo portraits of George VI and Queen Elizabeth, animals at a zoo (pelican and [thar?]), a thermal area, and a bush scene. Transportation is featured, with photographs showing trains (locomotives and carriages, including a Fairlie locomotive) and railway architecture (train tracks and Main Trunk Line viaduct) as well as car and horse and cart scenes. Places and buildings include Hastings Main Street, Blenheim Memorial (clock tower and fountain), Palmerston North (including birds on pond [Domain?], a church, shops, and the main square), Arthurs Pass and Porters Pass, a Coromandel homestead, house and garden of Cara [Sawings?], and [Otago Settlers?] Museum, Dunedin.
