Includes views of the construction on a timber dam (probably in Coromandel), Coromandel Public Hospital, Kennedy Bay (Coromandel), a stream crossing between Opitonui and Coromandel, bush camps in the Coromadel district and a traffic bridge in Rodney County. Daniel P Parker is recorded in the Wise's Post Office directories as an engineer in Coromandel from 1902 to 1930. Between 1906 and 1911 he is also recorded as a photographer. Description: The papers consist of: Application form submitted by Walter Dalziel; brief history of the farm and family; marriage certificate for Christopher Dalziel and Mary Anne Wighton, 1866; photographs (see below). The original owner of the land at Tuapeka West (later known as Braewick farm) was Christopher Dalziel who bought 100 acres in 1874. In the 1890s a further 630 acres were acquired. In 2005 the property was owned by Walter Dalziel, with his son Hamish being actively involved in the farm. Description: Elevated view looking down over the township of Port Chalmers and across the Otago Harbour to Quarantine Island, Goat Island (with single men's quarantine barracks visible) and beyond to the Otago Peninsula (Mt Charles on left and Harbour Cone on right). In the immediate foreground (on left) is the old cemetery. In the foreground there is a railway wagon and large stockpile of rocks waiting to be shifted. In foreground to the right is the cutting for the main Trunk Railway. Retail shops and commercial premises in George Street can be seen, including those of James Menelaus, James Bosworth Taylor (painter & paperhanger) & Simmonds & Sons. On the hill to the left in Grey Street is the Port Chalmers Grammar School and Holy Trinity Church (only partially visible). Photograph was taken by Herbert Deveril and dated ca 1876. The new Port Chalmers Grammar School in the foreground (centre right partially obscured by trees) was built 1874-1875 and occupied from December 1875. The building in George Street on extreme left was not completed until March 1875. Alongside this building is a large excavation for buildings eg Marine Hotel completed in 1881. They settled in Nelson where Elizabeth opened a girl's boarding school and took part in musical activities. They later moved to a property at Onekaka, Golden Bay, and then to Tukurua. A lengthy land dispute with local Maori at Tukurua left the family homeless, with Elizabeth and the children living in a disused whare. Dicken, 1879; sister Ada Dicken, 1876-1899, Beatrice `Bebe' Knight, 1899, and Eleanor Inman, 1873-1899; Emma Packe, n.d.; her aunt Augusta Parker, 1875-1889; and Amelia Soder, 1885; referring to domestic events. Includes reminiscences of her childhood in England written between 1891 and 1905. Also essays, recipe books, poetry, sketches and other writings, as well as some personal material associated with her husband who had a private school for boys at French Farm, Akaroa Includes shipboard diary kept by T S Baker on board the Dallam Tower, 11 May-26 Jul 1873, and a fragment of the original passenger list. The ship left London in May 1873. The ship encountered a cyclone in July 1873 which dismasted the ship. Some passengers were transshipped to the `Cape Clear' for Sydney and others stayed on the `Dallam Tower' to Melbourne where they transshipped to the SS Albion for the final voyage to New Zealand Josephine `Dodo' Dicken emigrated from England in 1873 with her father Thomas and sisters and brothers. The Family settled on a property at French Farm, Banks Peninsula. She married Thomas Southey Baker in Christchurch, 17 December 1878. They had four daughters.
