Description: Shows a river in the foreground, winding between wooded slopes. There is a fence and dwelling in the lower foreground, and a small hill with palisades in the middle distance. The view is from the pa, rather than showing it. According to the map accompanying Major Main's expedition against Te Kooti, March 1869 (reproduced in Judith Binney's "Redemption songs" (1995), page 158), Ahikereru or Ahikerera, where the pa was situated, is on the Whirinaki River, southest of Murupara. The title mentions "Capt Mair", but, according to Judith Binney's "Redemption songs" (1995), page 158, it was Major William Gilbert Mair (rather than Captain Gilbert Mair), who was involved in the action at Te Harema Pa. Other Titles - Te Harema Pa Quantity: 1 watercolour(s). Physical Description: Pencil and watercolour on sheet, 253 x 372 mm. Provenance: Purchased in 2002.
