Description: A large thatched storehouse (pataka) on four poles to the left, outside a fenced area containing three houses (one with a European-style slab chimney), and a smaller taller storehouse in a tree on the far right. A group of Maori outside the fence appear to be selling potatoes to a European. No. S97 in Richard S. Schneiderman's catalogue raisonne. State vi/vii. Other Titles - New Zealand. Native store-houses and dwellings at Akaroa. Banks Peninsula [translation] Collector's mark on recto, a stamped monogram with AM in a circle. (The same mark appears on B-014-003). Description: Scene in the interior of a fenced pa, with storehouses, dwellings and a wharenui. Two men are crouched beside an iron cooking pot in the right, there are people visible in doorways and a woman with a child on her back is walking across the compound. A pig (or possibly a dog) is on the left. The style is naive. Formerly attributed to J. A. Gilfillan, but the style is too naive. More like the work of James Coutts Crawford. By the same artist, and with the same provenance as A-093-002. Description: A clearing in bush, with a single-storey bark hut on a rock or clay bank beside a small stream. A tall mamaku (tree fern) is in front of the hut, with a seated and a standing Maori figure. Other tree ferns and bush are beyond, with hills. A raupo is in the foreground beside the stream. The scene is likely to be at the foot of the western or eastern hills in the Hutt Valley. Description: Military map of Bay of Islands, showing route taken by the British troops to reach Kawiti and his supporters. Route begins at Hokianga Harbour from the Waima River, along native path, through the Kaikohe pa site and mission station, along cart road through Waimate, past Kawiti's first pa site, along Cowa Cowa [Kawa Kawa] River, to the position of camp at Wai-o-meo 24 December 1845. Description: A view along the Whanganui River amidst steep banks, looking towards a small settlement at the foot of a cliff with the buildings and palisades of Tonuhaere Pa visible at the top of the above. Two Maori canoes are on the water close by, one a waka taua, the second a smaller waka with a sail.
