Description: Photographs of lakes, mountains and valleys in the Lake Manapouri, Doubtful Sound areas. Various photographers have been identified, some with only their surname. They include C S Ross, Alec Tuff (images 109-111), Miss Theomin [Dorothy Michaelis Theomin] (images 90, 97 and 111), Miss Wimperis (a folder entitled "Miss Wimperis" containing images numbered 86-101), J Murrell (a folder containing images numbered 102-107), J Ewart (image no. 93), D.W.(image no. 112), and probably W A K Kennedy. Several images show individuals (only one of whom has been identified (W. Grave)), and unidentified groups. A number of views show launches and their passengers on Lake Manapouri and in Doubtful Sound. Between images numbered 107 and 108 are three empty folders entitled "Waiau River"; "On the track from Lake Manapouri to the Sd.; "On the Sound (Doubtful Sd) and its arms, Smith, Hall, Crooked, Deep Cove". Description: Photograph album containing Taranaki scenes. Album created by John Strauchon, Chief Surveyor & Commissioner of Crown Lands for the Taranaki District between 1894 and 1902; photographs possibly taken by him? (Pages 32 onwards are empty). The first section of the album (pages 1-16) contain images of Mount Egmont (Mount Taranaki), including two accomodation houses, the Manaia Mountain House (Or Dawson's Falls Mountain House), and the Egmont Mountain House; Fanthams Peak; the Kapuni Stream; and Bell's Falls and Dawson Falls. The second part of the album (pages 18-31) contains views in and around New Plymouth, including two of celebrations during Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee in 1897. Description: Album of photographs collected by Rev G E Mason on a trip around the world in 1885-1886. Comprises photographs of California, Tasmania, Sydney, Ceylon, Egypt and New Zealand. In 1884 the Bishop of Lichfield recieved a request from the bishops of Christchurch and Auckland, New Zealand, to send clergy to conduct missions in their dioceses. To this end he invited Rev G E Mason, and Rev Charles Bodington to do the job. The two clegymen left Liverpool for the United States on the 4th of July 1885, spent a summer in New Zealand, and returned to England in September 1886. Previously attributed at different times to Charles Blomfield (according to Graham Chote of International Art Centre Parnell), and to Nicholas Chevalier. Inscriptions: Unsigned and undated.
