Description: The Society holds letters to D W Mitchell, Secretary 1847-1859 and P L Sclater, Secretary 1859-1902. The correspondence chiefly concerns the exchange of animals and includes a report to the New Zealand Premier, Ballance from Lord Onslow on the suitability of Little Barrier Island as a native bird sanctuary in 1892. There is also a letter from Captain Robert Falcoln Scott, dating from 1901, concerning the type of dog best suited for the Antarctic Expeditions.
