Description: Photographs of mountains and valleys in the Southern Alps towards the West Coast, chiefly taken by Dr Ebenezer Teichelmann, with the last two images probably taken by Marcel Kurz. The box is entitled "W.A. Kennedy. Dr. T. 4 (Box 22). The images are separated into nine sequences filed in paper folders, with two loose images at the end. The folders are as follows: 1: Complete pan (panorama) of 8 from Pioneer Ridge (nos. 1-22). 2: Callery (nos. 23-30). 3: Pan of 8 of the Lambert Group (from near the head of Lambert Glacier) (nos. 31-38). 4: Pan of 11 from Chancellor Ridge (nos. 39-46). 5: Lower Waiototo (i.e. Waiatoto) Valley (nos. 47-61a). 6: From Craig's Peak (no. 62). 7: odd Pioneer Ridge (nos. 63-70, and 80 (lacking nos. 71-79). 8: Head of Victoria Glacier (nos. 81-83). 9: Upper Waiototo (i.e. Waiatoto) Valley (nos. 84-109). 10: two loose images, now numbered 110 and 111 (originally numbered 103 (Haast from the H.-L col, K. Gardiner), and 127 (High peak of Cook from north beyond 2nd peak). Neither of these are listed in the inventory. Most of the places shown are listed above. Description: New Zealand views taken circa 1870s to 1880s by E Wheeler & Son. Scenes include both North Island and South Island views, and all places named are listed above, as are businesses, ships and buildings, where possible. Items of interest include a photograph of trout taken by the Upper Selwyn River "A good day's sport. 38 fish, with the fly, 2 rods" with two large baskets alongside. Two scenes show different means of transport across rivers where there are no bridges. One is the "Cage bridge" (or Flying Fox) across the Teremakau (Taramakau) River, and the other shows a ferry punt across the Buller River. A number of views show farming activities, including a scene near Cheviot of about 20,000 sheep being drafted for shearing; and one of a wagon laden with wool bales being hauled by a team of bullocks. A view of gold sluicing is shown in this album with the locality indistinct. The same view is shown in the first Wheeler Album (PA1-o-532) in which the locality is named as Waimea. Description: A view from the Tasman Glacier looking straight up the Hochstetter Glacier with Haast Ridge on the right. The Hochstetter Icefall ends in a small lake. In the background are Mount Tasman on the right and Mount Cook on the left. In the middle ground are Green and his two companions Kaufmann and Boss. A camera tripod is to the right of the men. On the verso is a schematic outline of the watercolour, with features named and 'Line of ascent, March 1, 2 & 3 1882' marked in front of Mount Tasman and pointing up Mount Cook. Green also mentions that the outline [and therefore probably the watercolour] is taken from a photograph taken at the time.
